Imaginative, effective, and thoroughly addicted to the filmmaking process with leadership and collaboration at the core of his experience. A vast background in lighting gives Robert his knowledge and taste as a cinematographer. Coming up through union and non-union lighting departments over many years allows him to work quickly with intuitiveness through lighting set ups, while always keeping the natural tone of the location or the design crafted by the other collaborators at the forefront of the visual approach. Robert is often tapped for challenging projects that require a special photographic point of view or camera/lens combo as well for his extraordinary talent at rendering darkness, dramatic tones, and romantic beauty with confidence, quality, and a lustre in the shadows. Robert is very much at home on large scale two camera projects that may have vfx needs as well as shoots with a single camera and a smaller production footprint who may still desire a big movie look. A lifelong mentor with an upbeat personality keeps his collaborations and workplaces productive, fun, and engaging. Robert will be formally relocating to Ottawa from Vancouver in September 2021 and can work as a local hire.
